Ugo’s Last Dance was translated into Russian by Yana Ross so that it could be a part of an International festival circuit. Impressed by the work and the artists behind it, the American Embassy decided to sponsor the play’s journey abroad for a world premiere. Excited by the support from such an exalted place, a Russian festival agreed to do the production, but with only a couple of weeks to go, the producers read it, deemed it too controversial and it was banned. New York gets the world premiere.
